GENERAL

These logos are displayed with written permission by their owners. There are 26 such logos or more in current use on the internet and one logo ( center ) has been used by it's owner since 1955.

These logos suggest one thing, that no individual or new entity can legally claim they they have sole right to use the IGW logo on their webpages. That statement, wherever displayed, is simply untrue.

IRGenWeb was the first Ireland Project to use IGW and copyright it's trademark/acronym IGW TM in March 1996. In September 1996 IRGenWeb changed it's name to IrelandGenWeb and on January 1, 2001 changed it's name to Ireland Genealogy Projects (IGP) TM. Based upon first use, first copyright, and continued protection of the name and acronym for nine years, no other Ireland project can make legal claim to exclusive right to use the IGW logo, nor to display TM after the logo.
