My Grandfather James Foley Cormack O'Brien's sister Mary O'Brien was the 2nd wife of John Shanahan of Fybough, Castlemaine, Kerry; I cannot find their 4th child who immigrated to USA, possibly Michigan; siblings were James J. Shanahan, Sr. 1897-1983, & Daniel Shanahan of St. Louis, MO and Nora Foley, wife of the "Champion" in Shanahill West, Keel, Castlemaine, Kerry. Thanks, Mary

My O'Brien's are from Shanahill East, Keel, Castlemaine, Co. Kerry; In some records there are seen as O'Brien, Brien, or Cormack as the surname. There are also O'Brien's in Shanahill West that are listed the same way. In this area there are also O'Brien's (Bog). I assume that the families in Shanahill East and West are connected further back. Does anyone know what the Cormack could mean? Thanks, Mary

From: Darryl L. Pierce
I'm looking for information on the family name MacPiarais (anglicised to McPierce and Pierce). They're from Co. Kerry but I've seen references to Antrim as well. My seanathair (Samuel Pierce) lived in the US in New Jersey. I don't know where he was born or any family history beyond him on that side of the family. On my mother's side, there are Hinkles and Alfords. I have, for that side: Mary Alford, born early 1800's (1810 roughly). Where is unknown. She was never married. John Alford, son of Mary Alford, was born roughly mid-1840's to Mary Alford. Married Polly Hinkle in Sullivan County, Tennessee. Elkaney(?) Alford, son of Mary Alford, was born roughly mid-1840's to Mary Alford. Nothing more is known of him. Parlee Alford (married name of Lawing), born 1889, in Sullivan County, Tennessee. Lela Mae Lawing (married name of Pierce), born 1925, in Erwin County, Tennessee. Darryl Lawing Pierce, son of Lela Pierce, born 1965, in Cumberland County, New Jersey. Any help on tracing this further is much appreciated. Please post any responses to this newsgroup as my email is currently out of commission. Mise le meas, Darryl L. From: MarieCSW
My name is Charlotte Rigg Nugent. I am researching my line in America and England/Townley Rigg, b. 1750, also John Patrick Nugent, b. March of 1871. He emmigrated to America in 1891, landing in New York City on May 18, 1891. He went to Bayonne, New Jersey where he worked as a laborer, saloonkeeper, in real estate. His son, John Patrick Nugent Jr. was a lawyer who had a legal firm in Jersey City, NJ. .P. Nugent, Jr., son was my husband, John Drewen Nugent. My children are especially interested in their Irish roots. I am attempting to establish the ancestral village. My mother in law visited it in 1948 with JPJr., but only remembers it was called "Castle Isle". In Kerry there is "Castle Island" but my Irish friend at work, Sheila Sullivan, says that Castle Island is never called "Castle Isle"! My sister in law, Nelle Nugent, remembers Bantry Bay and Bantry Bay Electric, as a place name and company that she seems to remember many in the family worked there. Also, John Patrick had a cousin called Dr. Ethel Nugent who was in the Wicklows, working at a university perhaps? She ended up at a University in the Mid- west, in America, St. Stephens College in Missouri, for a time. Can anybody help me with this research? John Patrick Nugent Sr, left Ireland in 1891 on the "Aurania" a ship out of Liverpool which also picked up passengers in Queenstown (Cobb), Ireland. Does anyone know what Castle Isle means? Does it mean "Castle Island"? Is anyone researching Nugents that you know of? What is the best next step for me? Thank you so much, Charlotte Rigg Nugent or
